IADC – WORK AT HEIGHT, FALL PROTECTION, & RESCUE TRAINING COURSE

This course is for personnel who may be required to work at height as part of their job. The course provides candidates with knowledge of the definition of work at height, and the associated hazards. The course also outlines the various fall protection and arrest systems and how to inspect, use, and maintain them. Candidates also are trained in how to conduct rescues for personnel who may have fallen from height and are suspended.
Learning Objectives
Describe 5 hazards associated with working at height.
Describe 3 safe working procedures while working at height.
Describe the difference between fall prevention, fall restraint, and fall arrest.
Label at least 80% of fall arrest and fall protection system equipment.
Demonstrate how to inspect and wear personal fall arrest/fall protection system equipment.
Describe 4 hazards specific to ladder safety and provide a relevant control method for each.
Describe 2 types of rescue procedures to be used during rescue at height operations and identify the equipment used for each procedure.
Demonstrate their ability to conduct a job safety analysis (JSA) for a work at height scenario.
Demonstrate competency in using fall arrest/fall protection equipment.
Material Includes
- Classroom with projector/display
- Computer/medium to open and view presentations/videos.
- Speaker system.
- Concession area for breaks/snacks.
- Stationery items for candidates.
- Approved work at height and rescue practice work platform/tower.
- Type A harnesses with tongue buckles (variety of sizes);
- Type A harnesses with mating buckles (variety of sizes);
- Single leg lanyards (with energy absorber);
- Lifelines with snap hooks adequate for learning purposes;
- Rope grabs; Carabiners; and D-bolt anchors.

Requirements
- Candidates must have at least 6 months’ experience working in environments where working and rescue at height is relevant.
- Candidates must have a physical checkup report from a health care provider verifying they are physically fit. The report can be no older than 12 months.
Target Audience
- Any employee who is expected to work in an environment where they may need to work at height or are part of a rescue team for rescue at height.
